ALLTWEN 6 RHIGOS 19

ALLTWEN 6 RHIGOS 19

We gave our best display of the season by a country mile and at last began to show on the field the all round game of which we are capable. At last the messages from Mark seem to be reaching parts of the top six inches in each player that they have not reached previously. It is no coincidence that we are also much fitter collectively and the attendance in training in the Hall is now regularly around 16 players. After a dodgy ten minutes when we lost the referee, six points and Dan twin to the bin, we took the measure of Alltwen in the first half and stopped them playing the tactics that had beaten us comfortably in Rhigos when we self destructed. Today Brandon and Ryan comfortably dealt with the long high kicks and counter attacked from them with some skill. Our lineout was very effective thanks to the accuracy of James Tobin and the jumping of David Twin and James Lewis and excellent driving play from Geraint and Matthew. Our scrum was strong and the result was that Gareth had time to pass to Sos who began to run the half using the midfield of Huw and Ryan cleverly with pass and chip kick or raking touch finder.

Our defence was secure Gareth and the back row of James, Dan Dudley and Dan twin were tireless on the heavy pitch while Sos, Huw and Ryan stopped Alltwen's dangerous centres in their tracks.

We fully deserved the try which took us in front when strong running from the forwards for seven or eight phases allowed Gareth to put Sos in for a try that Ryan converted. to put us in front by 7 points to six.

In the second half we stopped Alltwen from playing, kept possession and seemed to get stronger as the game went on. Here we were helped by a strong bench with the Smith brothers, Dwayne, Big Rhyd and Joss all playing their part.

Deservedly we scored again when a series of pick and goes took play up to the Alltwen line where Dan Dudley was on hand to score his second try in 2 weeks which Ryan converted to put us fourteen to six in front.

We then scored the best try of the match with backs and forwards taking the ball  from touchline to touchline before James Lewis scored near the corner a little bit too far out for Ryan to convert. This try completed the scoring. All the players deserve a pat on the back for this performance from Darren at prop through to Joss on the Subs bench. Importantly for a smallish squad there were no injuries and we can all look forward to getting in a few good training sessions before we play Tonmawr in Rhigos on 30th January.

P.S.

Even Elwyn and Twm were smiling
